Why work for the government?

The real question is why not?  Before we get into the real reason, let’s delineate the major difference between a job and a CAREER.   Now I’m sure you have had many jobs in your life, but many of us are searching for the elusive career they would like to build over the course of a lifetime, that offers security, pension, benefits, and a good salary.   Since the government is always hiring and never going out of business, the government offers unparalleled job security with the best benefits available; and of course, there is the patriotic pride that is our birth right as American citizens!

With this career comes a great deal of flexibility in every aspect.  First of all, many people are unaware of the full scope of government positions; especially when there are 35,000 different job-titles to choose from.  Since many applicants are unaware of the possibilities, they are fearful they do not possess the necessary experience or education to receive the career they have always dreamed of.  While you may not feel you have the necessary prerequisites, there are thousands of positions that need to be filled and provide paid on-the-job training with promotions. The truth is, at any point in time, there are thousands of open entry-level positions!

After 911, there were dramatic changes in the structure of our government, most notably the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.  With the creation of Homeland Security, TSA, etc., new job-titles are being created every year, and therefore the opportunities have never been better!
